The NBF was founded in 2001 and comprises participants from the following areas: Users of biometrics, such as banks, governments and health organisations, as well as groups of companies such as the Port of Rotterdam; Providers of biometrics-related products and services; Research institutes and universities; Governments in their roles as legislators and executors. The NBF focuses on raising public awareness and the safe use of biometric applications in the Netherlands. It also promotes the wide social acceptance and reliability of such applications.
