ID4Africa is an Identity-for-all Movement that accompanies African nations on their journey to develop robust and responsible Identity ecosystems in the service of development and humanitarian action. It is a tripartite with representation from African governments, development agencies and industry.
ID4Africa was motivated by the need to develop identity-for-all not just as a legal right but as a practical necessity to enable inclusive access to services in society. The Movement believes that robust, service-oriented identity ecosystems built on respect of privacy and human rights are essential for growth of digital economy, and will become even more critical as African nations move to implement the provisions of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCTA).
The Annual Meeting
ID4Africa holds an Annual Meeting to allow the Identity community to share information, report on progress, define priorities and policies and exchange experiences and best practices that could help advance national efforts across the Continent towards our collective goal of identity-for-all.
ID4Africa is the founding Coalition member of the campaign in support of International Identity Day. Established in 2014, ID4Africa is an NGO that accompanies African nations on their journeys to develop robust and responsible identity ecosystems in the service of development and humanitarian action. It is a tripartite with representation from African governments, international development agencies and the private sector. The Movement is driven by the need to establish identity-for-all not just as a legal right (consistent with SDG 16.9), but as a practical necessity to enable inclusive access to services in Africa. The ID4Africa Movement holds an Annual General Meeting in a different African country each year to unite the identity community, understand Africa’s priorities in identity matters and establish real world best practices that set the correct expectations for launching and sustaining successful identity programs. Its 6th Annual Meeting (ID4Africa 2020) will be held on 2-4 June 2020 in Marrakech, Morocco.
