Danish Police selects SteriaAFIS and biometric solution

The Danish Police has selected Steria for an eight-year biometrics programme, which will harness SteriaAFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System) to improve the accuracy and time spent matching fingerprints by moving to 100% digital processes to identify individuals in criminal investigations. The new solution is 100% digital, allowing Danish police officers to access and process information more efficiently by automating its current workflow engine.

Steria, a leading provider of IT-enabled business services, today announces it has been selected by the Danish Police for an eight-year biometrics fingerprint identification programme. The project will build upon the Danish Police's existing biometrics system by transforming the way it conducts criminal investigations, improving the accuracy and speed of fingerprint authentication by moving to 100% digital processes.

Steria will provide the Danish Police with a range of in-house solutions and tools, including SteriaAFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System), SteriaFIT and enrolment stations with livescanners. Once built, these solutions will meet the Danish Police's specific needs and enable the fast, electronic and accurate capture, storage and biometric matching of fingerprints in large databases, replacing the need for manual interaction with paper and ink-based enrolment of criminals from a forensics expert. The speed and accuracy of the solution will also reduce the time it takes officers to identify and signal criminal profiles from minutes to mere seconds.

The programme of biometrics solutions can be fully and seamlessly integrated into the Police's existing IT systems, enabling the Danish Police to move 100% of its investigation processes from traditional paper format to digital. This will result in a modernised and automated workflow engine, powering more efficient overall processes for the police force.

Steria was selected for its proven track record in transformative technology projects, having delivered biometrics solutions to customers in 27 countries, including the UK, Switzerland, France, Germany, Denmark and Norway. Furthermore, Steria offers customers one of the fastest and most comprehensive biometrics solutions currently available.

Trygve Solem, Head of Biometrics at Steria, comments: "By supporting the Danish Police with such an important, transformational project, we expect that homeland security and law enforcement agencies globally will see how powerful and essential biometry is in today's complex, modern world. This contract signals the beginning of a real breakthrough for Steria in this domain, which the company will continue to champion for years to come."
